Turn left leaving The Lodge and head for Arnisdale and after around 3 miles you come to Upper Sandaig (basically a cottage between Glenelg and Arnisdale). The forestry track, on the right just before the cottage, is the start of a 1.5 mile walk that leads down to Sandaig, famous as the location of the late author Gavin Maxwell’s home and where he bought up his otters while writing “Ring of Bright Water”. Sandaig and the Islands are one of those places that the Highlands do so well. A miniature gem that includes great views, small islands you can walk out to at low water with a stunning white sandy beach, a small waterfall with a twisting burn crossed by a rope bridge and a history that  intrigues people often bringing them back year after year.
